Tablet Weaving (TW)

Two 15th Century Icelandic TW bands were found in Höfdi Church, Höfdi, Iceland and pictures can be found in:
Brickvavning - sa in i Norden: Vad skal du gora med alla band.
by Sonja Berlin Englund
Kalmar : Brickvavnad Sonja Berlin, 1994. (in Swedish) (on Amazon.com)
- The title basically translated into English, "Brick Weaving - So Into North"
- Out of Print, but can be found in many libraries and available second hand. You can locate the closest library with a copy by clicking on the Worldcat.org link (above, in the book's title).

3-Hole TW or Empty Hole TW is an Icelandic TW technique which leaves a small gap on the surface since there is no warp thread to go in that spot so that you can see the weft thread through the hole.
Works well for Brocade designs.

Nålebinding

Nålebinding Techniques in the Viking Age
Nålebinding - Hald's Type IIa
(Oslo Stitch)
"Nordland's notation calls this 4[12]. Hansen's notation calls this stitch UO/UOO F1. Larry Schmitt calls it "Oslo stitch." As Viking nålebinding goes, this is a commonly occurring stitch, with at least three known and geographically disparate examples, all mittens.
(...)
A tenth-century mitten from Arnheiðarstaðir, Iceland, is also worked in this technique (Hald, 304; Nordland, 41)."

Warp-Weighted Loom

Weaving on the Warp-Weighted Loom
: Some Source Materials
by Carolyn Priest-Dorman/Þóra Sharptooth
-This is an amazing source for research, links for construction and information on warp-weighted looms. Especially go to the section, "How-Tos and Related Useful Information" for links to 3 great sites. There are several Icelandic W-WL links on this page inc;luding published articles.
+
"My Icelandic-style warp-weighted loom, rigged for four-shed twill. It's approximately 6'8" tall and 5'2" wide, and it's based on extant medieval loom parts from Greenland and Iceland. Also, it's designed to be portable (to go to demos) and to be used indoors most of the time, hence the use of tied heddle rod supports. When we set it up at encampments the heddle rod supports are planted in the ground." SOURCE
